6th Grade Acteens

Every Wednesday night during the school year girls in grades 6^th – 11^th meet for Acteens. Acteens is a time for girls to learn about missions and missionaries. Not only do we learn about missions and missionaries, we also do mission work. The sixth grade girls have spent several Saturdays working at Gracewood and have LOVED every minute of it. The girls also learn more about their Christian faith and serving others through Christ’s love.

Some of the other activities that the Acteens have participated in with enthusiasm include making candy turkeys for the Baptist Mission Centers, wrapping gifts for Mr. Brunner’s Christmas, participating in a prayer journal and prayer guide and collecting items for children in need. The sixth grade Acteens focus on Awareness of their Baptist history and faith and Confidence that God gives us to share our faith. The sixth grade Acteens have learned about their spiritual gifts and put them into practice. The last activity the sixth grade girls completed, was talking to the fifth grade GA’s to encourage them to move up to Acteens.

Xpress and Abby Tracy Reflection

We had such a great time at Xpress last Friday night. Thank you so much to all of our students who brought artwork and poetry and shared presentations! It was amazing to see so many unique and creative xpressions of singing and tumbling and violin and piano and guitar and dulce de leche cheesecake squares and…well, you get the idea!

We also loved hearing a few minutes from Abby Tracy and to see the faces of many of the boys that she loves and rescues from the streets of Kampala, Uganda.

We were grateful for Abby sharing the entire weekend with us to learn more about how God brought her to love on street kids, the miraculous ways God has worked to expand the ministry in the past year, and also to hear the dreams and visions for the future! She is saving money to buy a plot of land and build a new home out in a village so that boys can truly get a fresh start away from the influence of the slums. Won’t it be amazing to see how God could use the people at Tallowood to help this vision become a reality?

You can continue to help Abby and be a part of her ministry in the following ways:

1) Pray for her and the boys at the Ssenge home, the Kivulu home, and the boys and girls still on the streets. Also pray that she will be able to expand the ministry by building another home and starting a ministry to girls. Check out her blog at http://africa-love.livejournal.com to learn more.

2) Give money to help meet monthly expenses and expand the ministry!

3) Sell bracelets and necklaces which raises funds for the ministry AND keeps several young men off the streets who make the jewelry!

4) Plan a short-term trip to go to Uganda to love on street kids!

Abby Tracy is coming back!

Sunday Evening, January 24^th, 2010

Sunday evening, February 22, 2009, Abby Tracy spoke in our evening worship service, at the conclusion of the Spark weekend. That night, she captured our hearts with her passion for God and her tenacious commitment for rescuing homeless street kids from the dangerous streets of Kampala, Uganda. It has been almost a year since she has been with us and she is coming back to give us an update on what God has been doing on the streets of Kampala to rescue the homeless and provide a way of escape from darkness, both physically and spiritually. Let’s pack out the Tallowood worship center Sunday evening, January 24th, to worship the Lord and to hear from Abby. She will be sharing stories and pictures of children that have been rescued for eternity and ushered into the Kingdom of Light.

Abby will also be here Friday, January 22^nd for Xpress. Xpress this year will provide opportunity for our young people to share the love of Christ through a variety of creative ways. The evening will spotlight Abby’s ministry and the opportunity to give, so that other street kids may be rescued. Bring your families and come be a part of this night together. We are asking that each person attending bring a minimum $5 donation for Abby Tracy.

Sunday morning, January 24^th, Abby will speak to the Tallowood youth group at 10:15 am, in the chapel, sharing her life story and the reason she is in Kampala. This will be youth Sunday School that morning. Parents of youth are invited to come.

Impact and ReFuel – Africa Focus!

This Wednesday night, all middle school and high school students will meet together for a combined Impact and ReFuel at 7:30 pm. Doug Taylor, a former student minister and a great friend of Micah and Laura Cating, will share about his call to serve as a missionary in Arua, Uganda. You won’t want to miss it! 8th Grade Trip

We are in Sherman, TX for Student Life Mission Camp with some of our 8th grade students.

Our group is spending the afternoons serving at a local shelter where we sort clothing donations. We’re working outside so it is hot but we are enjoying the time together.

Jerusalem safely home

Our final day in Jerusalem was on Saturday and we spent the morning doing yard work for Jerusalem Prayer Center, and some up keep that they needed to have done. We also spent some time in the Prayer room, praying for a nation and our world and all that God had done and would continue to do in Jerusalem.

Our final time was spent preparing for the trip home, saying our final goodbyes at Shevet Achim and riding the Sharot to Tel Aviv.

We are finally home and missing Israel and the people God gave us to pray for and pray with while in the country.

Pray for Nazmin, a shop owner who sold us sandals. He allowed us to pray for him, his family and God’s blessings on his family.

Pray for Isaac, I(Jimmie) got to share Christ with him.

Pray for the children at Shevet Achim who had surgery, Mohammed, Akram and Sidra. They are all recovering and gaining strength.
